Sensei Charles Valentin has been involved in the martial arts since 1970 where at
the age of 14 he began studying Henry Cho's Korean Tae Kwon Do in the South Bronx, New York. After one year of training in Tae Kwon Do, Sensei Valentin joined Shotokan Karate Club on 161st BX, NY under Sensei's Philip & Michael McRae.
Sensei Valentin was awarded his 1st Degree Black Belt (Shodan) on October
30th,
1974 after a two hour grading examination on Kihon, Kata, Kumite & Self Defense Techniques. From 1975-1976, Sensei Valentin was an Instructor/Sempai at the Shotokan Karate Club Dojo. In 1976, Sensei Valentin joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Parris Island, South Carolina & then in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. While serving in the Marines, Sensei Valentin taught Karate at the Camp Johnson NC Barracks to fellow Marines & USMC Officers.
In 1980, Sensei Valentin returned to City College and studied for a degree in
Computer Sciences. While attending City College of NY, he was a member of the Karate Club & La Crosse Teams. Sensei Valentin continued to train/teach at the (Police Athletic League) & competed in Traditional Karate Tournaments. |
